Black & Decker TO1303SB 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker TO1303SB

The Black & Decker TO1303SB 4-Slice Toaster Oven is a great little powerhouse that looks good on the counter, heats up fast, and delivers crunchy browned toast and much more. It has a large window and a cooking timer so the consumer can keep track of the food while it's cooked. It's big enough to hold four slices of bread, a 9-inch pizza, or two chicken breasts.

Although this item is called a toaster oven, it does much more than make toast. The user can heat up bagels, French fries, breadsticks, or even cook hot dogs or bacon. Leftovers can be easily reheated. It is convenient for two people or a small space, and it won't make the countertop hot. It looks nice and fits in with a stainless steel kitchen. The Black & Decker TO1303SB has only a single heating element on the top and bottom, with four modes: warm, broil, bake, and toast. In warm or broil mode, only the top heating element is used. Both elements heat up in bake or broil mode. It's easy to use, so that even Grandpa can figure it out without having to read the manual. It's also good for children, because it works much better than an EZ Bake Oven. There are a few inconveniences. The tray doesn't automatically slide out when the oven is opened, but it must be removed with a flat serving utensil. Neither does the oven rack slide out when the door is opened; it must be pulled out manually. The drip tray does not cover the entire bottom of the rack, so that if chicken is being cooked, grease may drip into the bottom. The machine ticks while baking, and the top and sides tend to get hot, so fingers might get burned. The lettering on the controls is tiny, and the controls are not very intuitive. Three dials must be set correctly just to make toast. The short power cord is mounted on the side, limiting placement of the oven. The biggest drawback to the Black & Decker 4-Slice Toaster Oven is the timer. There is no off switch, so once it begins, it has to run its course. This is problematic if the cook wants to take an item out early she can only wait until the timer runs out before she can turn it to something else. This is especially inconvenient if the timing knob is turned the wrong way. The only way to stop it is to force the timer backwards.

This item is one of the best toaster ovens for small spaces and a few people, such as a couple in an apartment. It's good for older people who like the simplicity of use, or for children just learning to bake or for that son-in-law who's too busy to cook in a conventional oven. For the price, it does a fine job and delivers tasty toast. Click Here to get the Black and Decker TO1303SB 4-Slice Toaster Oven
